About EISA Niger


EISA opened its Niger field office programme in June 2020 to support the Electoral Commission and the Media Regulator for credible, inclusive, and peaceful local, presidential, and parliamentary elections in 2020 and 2021.

Support to the Electoral Commission

Main elements of support to the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI; Commission Électorale Nationale Indepéndante) include:

  • Operational planning.
  • Operations and logistics.
  • Consolidation and dissemination of voting results.
  • Organizational and institutional development.
  • Post-elections review.
Support to the Media Regulator

Main elements of support to the Superior Council of Communication (CSC; Conseil Supérior de la Communication) include:

  • Material equipment and technology for effective media monitoring, including social media monitoring.
  • Advocate Issaka Souna, president of CENI, at the launch of EISA Niger in Niamey
  • The regulation of the access of political parties and candidates to the media.
  • Political pluralism and election coverage.
  • An awareness campaign against electoral violence.
  • A post-elections review.
Support to Citizen Observation 2020/1

The European Union provided an additional six month grant for EISA to support civil society organisations in election observation. The project commenced on 24 November 2020 and concludesd at the end of May 2021.
