EISA opened its Niger field office programme in June 2020 to support the Electoral Commission and the Media Regulator for credible, inclusive, and peaceful local, presidential, and parliamentary elections in 2020 and 2021.

Support to the Electoral Commission

Main elements of support to the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI; Commission Electorale Nationale Independante) include:

  • Strengthening of operational planning.
  • Strengthening election operations and logistics.
  • Consolidation and dissemination of voting results.
  • Organizational and institutional development.
  • Post-elections review.

Support to the Media Regulator

Main elements of support to the Superior Council of Communication
(CSC; Conseil Superior de la Communication) include:

  • Material and technologic equipment of CSC for an effective media monitoring, including social media.
  • Support to the regulation of the access of political parties and candidates to media.
  • Capacity building for the media on political pluralism and election coverage.
  • Support to CSC for an awareness campaign against electoral violence.
  • Post-elections review.
